I’ve talked about working on my photography a lot recently. After finishing my dissertation, I decided I really wanted to spend some time improving Modern Ghosts, and upping my photography skills seemed like a good first step. So, I bought a camera, started working my way through an online course, and having been taking pictures of everything and everyone. Food and product photography are definitely my comfort zone. I’m not a practised portrait or fashion photographer at all. I do, however, want to start including more of that in my creative output, and we all know that the magic happens outside your area of current ability. So when I was offered an opportunity to feature Jacamo menswear, I jumped at the chance. I grabbed my good friend Adam, talked him into modelling for me and off we went for a snowy walk around the most magical part of Liverpool.
Jacamo are mainly known for their plus-size menswear range, but browsing their site taught me that their offering is actually quite varied. With sizes starting from Medium upwards and plenty of long-length shirts, they cater to a range of shapes and sizes. For our shoot, Adam and I wanted to create a look that wasn’t over-the-top, but smart enough to wear to a Christmas party – or for a Christmas stroll around Liverpool’s lovliest streets. We chose a waistcoat and a selection of shirts from Jacamo and paired them with jeans and a scarf he already had. It’s hardly a novel combination, but hey, why re-invent the wheel!? I know very little about men’s shirts, but Adam was very happy with the quality. He’s a picky dresser, so I take that to be the highest compliment!
Unluckily for Adam, it was absolutely freezing cold, so we were a bit limited in how much time we could spend running around without a coat, but I’m really quite pleased with the photos we got. He was excellent model material and Liverpool was showing its very best side! I had never been to this particular area before, and I was a bit stunned by just how pretty it is.
After freezing my hands (and Adam’s limbs) off for a good 40 minutes, we decided that enough was enough and took his new outfit for a hot (like, really hot) chocolate. The plan was to look through the photos we had taken and choose our favourites, but we ended up in such a cute coffee shop that I couldn’t actually put the camera down.
Esquires Coffee, by the Exchange Flags in Liverpool, is doubtlessly my favourite new haunt. The soy hot chocolate was delicious, the coffee smelled divine and the interiors were just perfect. The whole place was really bright, with lots and lots of light coming in, but there wasn’t a piece of white furniture to be seen. Instead, dark metals were combined with natural wood and bright-coloured cushions and patterns – I’m in love with the style! If you’re ever in the area, be sure to nip in for a hot drink.
The whole morning was great fun, and I really enjoyed my venture into men’s fashion – thanks Jacamo!
